How to Make Delicious Homemade Yogurt

Delicious Yogurt Recipe
This is my first blog post and I have been thinking about what to write about for a while. After a long contemplation, I have decided to write about making homemade yogurt, as I have recently learned how to make my own yogurt and it is delicious! What I love about making my own yogurt is that you can make it as mild or as tart as you like and you can flavor it any way you please (I love blueberry pie filling). It’s also really easy to make! Here we go!
You will need:
- 1 gallon of whole milk
- a thermometer (I just use this one)
- About 2 heaping tablespoons of plain yogurt
- A stainless steel pot that can hold 1 gallon of milk
- 4 quart jars and 1 pint jar
- A funnel (optional)
- A spoon
Instructions:
The first thing you need to do is pour your milk into your Pot and turn on your stove to med-high. You will also want to take your yogurt out of the fridge because it needs to be at room temperature when you mix it into your milk later on. What I like to do is put two heaping tablespoons into a medium bowl, so it will warm faster.
When choosing your milk, it is best to choose milk that has not been homogenized but honestly, it’s really hard to find that in an average store. I just use whatever whole milk I can find and it works just fine. Another thing to note when selecting your yogurt is that it should be whole, full fat, yogurt with live cultures. This is super important because you are using these cultures as the starter for your yogurt. After you make your yogurt the first time, you can use your homemade yogurt as the starter for your next batch, so save a couple tablespoons for next time!
You will want to heat the milk until it reaches 180- 200 degrees Fahrenheit (or until it just starts to boil). Now you just need to turn off your burner and let the milk cool naturally until it reaches 110-120 degrees (or until you can put your finger in it for two seconds). Next, ladle a few spoons of milk into your bowl of yogurt and mix until smooth. Then, pour into the big pot of milk and stir again. Now that all your live cultures are in, you can jar it! But first you need to make sure your jars are clean and sanitized.
Now that all your jars are filled, they need a nice warm, cozy place to sleep. Pack the jars close together inside a cooler or sealed crate and wrap them with blankets or towels. The point is to keep them warm and toasty while they turn into your delicious yogurt. Let them sleep for at least 8 hours. If you like your yogurt more tart then you should wait longer before taking them out. I don’t like mine too tart so I usually wait about 8 hours.
Now you have delicious yogurt! You can eat it now if you want, or you can refrigerate them. Get creative with flavors like vanilla and honey, jams and jelly’s, or fresh fruit or nuts. Sky’s the limit! So get cookin and have fun! Come back and see what I have next time on Put it in the Blog!

Ingredients
- 1 gallon milk
- 2 Tbs yogurt Live probiotics
Instructions
- Set aside the starter yogurt to warm to room temperature.
- Heat the milk until it reaches180-200 degrees Fahrenheit. Make sure to stir it often so that it doesn't stick to the bottom.
- Let the milk cool naturally until it reaches 110-120 degrees.
- After the milk has cooled, mix in the yogurt then pour your mixture into the jars. store in a warm place, such as a cooler wrapped in towels, for about 8 hours.
- If you like a tangier yogurt then leave the yogurt set for longer. I've found that leaving it for even 9 hours gives it an increasingly tangier taste.
